This weekend was brutal, weather-wise. It's been so hot here, and muggy. On Saturday the thermostat in my apartment read 86 degrees (F) and that was with all the windows open and every fan on. It's amazing I got any writing done under the circumstances, but I did! In fact, I resurrected a fic that I'd started two years ago and finally finished it. Woo! I'm liking this trend of finally finishing some of my older WIPs. I hope I can keep it going!

Nice variety of fic to share with you this week, including a nice long piece full of angsty angstiness. ::grins::

I've been on vacation this week, friends. There was supposed to be a road trip, and touristy things, but it got canceled. And I have to say, I'm pretty glad. It's been wonderful just lounging around the house, staying up late and sleeping in the next day. And the best thing of all: no need to wear a bra! ::grins::

I did one fill-in shift at second job on Monday, and have been home free since then. And I'll tell you what. I've had ALL THE WORDS. For serious. I've been making myself sit at the kitchen table instead of the comfy couch, kept the TV off, and wrote all the things. Some prompts, a movie fusion that I pumped over 6k words into in one day, and almost nothing that I had planned to work on. Of course! LOL!

Clocked in a total of almost 17k words since Saturday. Outrageous!

Already dreading heading back to work. Sunday for second job, Monday for first job. And then I feel like all my words will dry up. But I feel like I made excellent use of my week off. Now to see about some house cleaning. Bah.

Oh, and I just now got some great news! My brother's five-month legal battle is finally over! Whew. I'm not going to miss going to court every month, I can tell you that. And despite the fact that my brother is a huge idiot, and probably should've had more severe consequences for what he did, we've definitely grown closer thanks to those court days. Now if only he can keep himself out of trouble.

For those interested, here's my list of recent fics. Under a cut, 'cause the list be long, my friends. The list be long.

You know, it shouldn't be that hard to commit to a weekly post of fic links. Why can't I do it? ::shakes head::

So, I had to drop out of [livejournal.com profile] intoabar. I don't feel good about it, but the fic was...not my best effort. I'm not giving up on it, but I honestly don't know how to fix it at this point.

But I have bigger fish to fry. Namely finishing my [livejournal.com profile] sentinelbigbang. I've literally had forever to work on it, because of a lengthy extension on the original due date. But it seems that once again I'll be racing for the finish and hopefully skidding in just under the wire. I really need to stop signing up for challenges.

There's also a self-imposed deadline of tomorrow (which I will fail at meeting, just FYI) to finish a gift fic that I started for my friend's birthday last year. ::sighs::

Anyway, enough whining. Without further ado, I give you my latest batch of fic:

Under a Cut, Because Long )

So, time for the Brumeier 2015 wrap-up.

In the world of fandom and writing, which, let's be honest, is where I spend most of my time, I was surprisingly productive. 35 posted fics! 123,674 posted words! See, this is why I keep a spreadsheet. Because all year I'm like, bah, too tired to write, I'm getting nothing done. False!

Fandom things that happened to me this year:

Bucky took hold of my imagination and my muse, and so I got to add the MCU fandom into my writing repertoire. I think it's safe to say there'll be more of him to come in 2016. ::grins::

I was also lucky enough to be the recipient of fanart, which is just so amazing. I have zero art skills, so people taking the time to draw for me? Awesome! [livejournal.com profile] danceswithgary made this for one of my SGA fics, and Bonanza drew me some Sentinel art for Sentinel Summer Camp and Soulmates. (The art is posted in the fic.) Love it all!

Just to cover all media angles, the lovely [livejournal.com profile] librarychick_94 did a podcast of one of my SGA stories, Sight Unseen. Seriously, the fandom generosity has overwhelmed me this year.

And just because I feel like it, here's a list of all the fics I put out there to the world in 2015:

OMG, friends, I'm having the best Friday!

I got a notice first thing this morning that RavenclawProngs had gifted me an SGA fic on AO3! It's called Things Mssrs. Sheppard and McKay Are No Longer Allowed to Do. It's not finished yet, but what's up so far is hilarious! This is exactly the kind of thing I'd expect from the boys once they're old enough to be in assisted living.

As if that wasn't awesome enough, I also got a comment on one of my older Sentinel fics, Sentinel Summer Camp. The commenter, Bonanza, liked my fic so much she made art for it! Look at it! Look how adorable it is!

Pic under cut )
Lastly, I went ahead and bought my photo op with Joe Flanigan for next year's Stargate con, since I had the extra money this week. There's no turning back now! LOL! Hopefully the registration tickets I can afford won't go on sale until after the holidays. ::fingers crossed::

Friday the 13th unlucky? Not for this girl! ::grins::
brumeier: (SGA Meant To Be)
Monster Fest is wrapping up today over at [livejournal.com profile] ushobwri. It's been a fun month of monsters and mayhem, and personally very productive writing-wise for me. All told I posted ten fics for the Fest, nine of them in my SGA Unexpected Discoveries 'verse. Yay! For your entertainment, here are the final two:

Title: Afreet in the Valley of the Kings
Fandom: SGA
Pairing: McShep
Bonus: Elizabeth Peters homages
Monster Fest Theme: Angels & Demons

Summary: Deep in the Theban hills of Egypt lies the famed Valley of the Kings, home to sixty-three tombs and chambers that once contained the remains of the privileged nobility. The Valley showed a resurgence in tourism after the journals of famed Egyptologist Amelia Peabody Emerson were published several years ago, and now it’s in the news again thanks to run-ins with what locals are calling an afreet, or demon. The MU team is heading to this land of mummies, pyramids and ancient gods to see if we can track down the source of these afreet stories…without becoming entombed ourselves.

*o*

Title: Pacific Northwest Alien Encounters
Fandom: SGA, The Sentinel
Pairing: McShep, Jim/Blair
Warning: Hate crimes
Monster Fest Theme: Human Monsters

Summary: The Pacific Northwest is known for active volcanoes, lush forests, and higher than average rainfall. What you might not know is that this region also has a high volume of UFO sightings. In one month alone, the National UFO Reporting Center logged in thirty-six reports of strange lights in the sky over Washington. The MU team is heading to Cascade, site of a recent spate of sightings, to see if we can have an alien encounter of our own. Beam us up, Scotty!

So, I find myself signed up (or planning to sign up) for three writing things that wrap up at various times in December/January. What motivated me to do this, when the writing has been so hard for me lately? Perhaps a need to be part of fun exchanges. Perhaps the desire to have someone write me a thing. Or perhaps I'm just impulsive.

What have I signed up for, you ask? Let me tell you! ::grins::

The Sentinel Big Bang ([livejournal.com profile] sentinelbigbang) I participated in the Reverse Bang, which wrapped up in June and left me a ball of stress. I swore no more challenges. And yet two weeks later I signed up for this one. But I know why. This fandom is celebrating its 20th anniversary and I want to be a part of that. Now if only I could make progress on my fic. Due date: January 27

Winter In Hawaii. I came across this on Tumblr, and it's being hosted through AO3. I've never participated in a Hawaii Five-0 exchange, and this is the first time this particular one is running. Which is maybe why I'm planning on signing up on the 15th. I could still change my mind...but I probably won't. Due date: December 31

SGA Secret Santa ([livejournal.com profile] sga_secretsanta) Last year, the wonderful mods who ran [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa decided to end the exchange after ten long years. I was sad, since it was only my second year participating. But then it was resurrected with a new name and new mods, because the SGA fandom will never die! ::grins:: Of the three challenges, this one makes the most sense because it's the fandom I'm most active in. Sign-ups end on the 13th, if you're interested! Due date: December 1

So, can I get all these done? Who knows. Two jobs, a boy just starting junior high, and my amazing distractibility make me a bit dubious. Not to mention all the WIPs I'm still working on, and the original piece I want to do for submission to an anthology. (Which, gah! Submission deadline is October 1st. I thought it was February. Uh oh.) Well, I'll say this. I dream big. ::rolls eyes::

brumeier: (WTF - Sentinel)
Swiped from [livejournal.com profile] popkin16, who did an great job applying McShep to this meme. Check it out here!

Since SGA has been handled so adeptly, I’m going to take a stab at this with Jim and Blair from The Sentinel. Here we go!

Which one hogs the blankets?
Which one cuts the other’s hair?
Which one makes coffee for the other one every morning?
Which one picks up the pizza?
Which one likes their music on full volume?
Which one complains about the crumbs on the bed?
Which one is ticklish?
Which one sings and which one plays the music?
Which one proposes?

Which one hogs the blankets?
Blair. He’s always cold. He layers his clothes, though probably not nearly as much in canon as he does in fic. ::grins:: He’d be better suited to a warmer climate than Seattle but where Jim goeth there goeth Blair. Besides, it’s an excellent excuse for cuddles.

Which one cuts the other’s hair?
Blair cuts Jim’s hair. Not a lot of skill needed there, since Jim keeps it pretty short. Jim teases Blair a lot about cutting all those curls but he’d never follow through because he not-so-secretly loves them. When they’re in bed together Jim can’t stop playing with Blair’s hair, wrapping his fingers in the soft curls. Yeah, it’s definitely a thing.

Which one makes coffee for the other one every morning?
Jim is up at the crack of dawn. You can take the man out of the military, but he still likes to get up early. Blair, being an overworked college student/police consultant/Guide takes any opportunity to sleep in. Jim will make coffee and when it’s his turn to make breakfast - and a lot of the time when it isn't - he’ll have it all laid out by the time Blair stumbles down the stairs. He never feels quite generous enough to fix the algae shakes Blair sometimes drinks, though.

Which one picks up the pizza?

Neither one. After the events of Blind Man’s Bluff they both lost their taste for pizza. Too many bad memories attached to it now. They’re not opposed to other types of take-out, though, and on the days they’re working together they’ll stop on the way home.

Which one likes their music on full volume?
Blair. When he’s listening to aboriginal music he wants to feel it, speakers turned up so the tribal drums make his bones vibrate. With Jim’s sensitive hearing he doesn’t need to mess with volume, and if Blair wants to rock out when he’s home he’ll just dial down. Jim loves Blair, but tribal music is never going to be his thing. Santana, on the other hand…

Which one complains about the crumbs on the bed?
Ha! Under normal circumstances Jim doesn’t allow food anywhere near the bedroom. He’s very fastidious, even before his senses came online. Before they became a couple Blair would often eat in his room while he was studying or grading papers, but now he has to do that downstairs in the kitchen or the office that they turned his old bedroom into. Crumbs don’t stand a chance in Jim Ellison’s bed.

Which one is ticklish?
Both, but if Jim has touch dialed up he can be ridiculously ticklish. Especially his feet, which is just another reason for those thick white socks. ::grins:: He doesn’t let himself go like that too often, though. The skin over Blair’s ribs can be very ticklish, which one time really ruined the mood when he and Jim were having sexytimes. Jim has since learned how much pressure to apply with his hands to keep from tickling.

Which one sings and which one plays the music?
Blair does both. He plays the guitar that Naomi gave him, which was supposedly given to her by Jimi Hendrix, and he loves to sing. Jim is much more reserved, but sometimes Blair will catch him singing along quietly to songs he likes.

Which one proposes?
This is all Blair, who thrives on living in the moment. There’d be no planning, no fancy dinner or anything like that. He’d be all, “Hey. Let’s get married. No, here’s why it makes perfect sense!” Jim, who has one failed marriage under his belt already, would be very hesitant about taking that step. He’d have to weigh all the pros and cons. But Blair’s enthusiasm and unconditional love would win him over, and give him the hope that this time he could be really happy.
brumeier: (WTF - Sentinel)
Here it is, my entry for the Sentinel Reverse Bang ([livejournal.com profile] sentinelbigbang). I fought so hard with this fic, and was sure it was terrible, but you know what? It's not too bad. ::grins::

The artwork that goes with this fic can be found here, with all due thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lapetite_kiki.

Title: In Your Eyes
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Rating: Teen & Up
Warnings: Angsty, emotionally constipated Jim ::grins::

Summary: After the events of Dead Drop, Jim decides that he and Blair need some time away. A recurring nightmare and the threat of Blair walking out of his life force Jim to confront feelings he'd been trying so hard to ignore.

And if you like this, check out the Reverse Bang Master List for more Sentinel goodness!
brumeier: (WTF - Sentinel)
I'm supposed to be hard at work on my [livejournal.com profile] romancingmcshep fic, so of course I dusted off this WIP and finished it instead. ::rolls eyes at self::

Title: (Love Is Like A) Heatwave
Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Warning: Explicit sexy funtimes

Summary: Cascade is suffering under a heatwave, and things only get hotter when Blair gets Jim to work on some visualization techniques in an effort to cool down.
brumeier: (WTF - Sentinel)
Another fluffy, sugar-coated Christmas fic finished! LOL! What can I say? The holidays make me extra sappy. This is a companion fic to I Believe, which I wrote last year, but since it's an origin story it stands alone. Enjoy!

Title: A Baby Just Like You
Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Warnings: Mushy baby fic!

Summary: A foot chase on Christmas Eve leads to a startling discovery that changes Jim's and Blair's lives...for the better!
brumeier: (WTF - Sentinel)
Another languishing fic, completed and posted! This one will wrap up my Songs for Sentinel series. Woo! Now on to the next thing...

Title: Drive By
Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Explicit slash, emotional h/c

Summary: Jim's inability to own up to his feelings sends Blair away for six months. When he's given another chance will he have the courage to take it?
brumeier: (WTF - Sentinel)
I'm so happy to report that I've finally started posting Lovesong, a Sentinel fic that's been living on my flash drive for a very, very long time waiting to be finished. Which it now (almost) is - just the last chapter to finish.

I love this fic so much! And I'm excited to finally get to be able to share it. Here's the details:

Title: Lovesong
Fandom: The Sentinel
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Warnings: Some minor casefic violence

Summary: Jim Ellison is having a rough go of things. Assigned to desk duty because his senses are out of whack, he investigates a cold case - the murder of a Rainier professor. Blair Sandburg, a young teacher whose dreams have been sidelined by a physical disability, finds a new purpose in his life when he meets Jim. Can they solve the case and overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of what could be a great partnership?
brumeier: (Stefon)
So, I just remembered I was planning on doing a weekly Good Things post. LOL! But better late than never. Here are some good things from the past week:

  • I participated in my second Sentinel chat, which was awesome!

  • Bunnies attacked me again, only this time they were werebunnies. I have dutifully jotted down notes and written a whole scene, even though it's the last thing I want to be working on right now. Creativity is a good thing, right?

  • I spent a fun evening with my boy while hubby was away. He actually deigned to spend time with me, so that was nice.

  • Started watching Twisted on Netflix, and I've been completely sucked in. That's good stuff!

I hope you've had some good things in the past week, too! Here's hoping for lots of happy in the coming week!
brumeier: (Stefon)
Well, it's been a little while since I had a Sentinel fic to share. But I was so inspired by the discussion we had during my very first TS chat this weekend (compliments of [livejournal.com profile] ts_news) that I felt compelled to write about one of the topics we touched on. It's called Who Gives This Man and it's a Carolyn/Jim story. Not my first one, but it is the first that doesn't have a mention of Blair in it. Which was very strange for me! LOL!

Now back to my regularly scheduled SGA programming...
brumeier: (Stefon)
Okay, I'm totally taking a page from [livejournal.com profile] draycevixen's book and taking this opportunity to list some positive things that have happened to me recently. This may or may not turn into a regular thing, since I'm notorious for forgetting to be regular. ::winks::

So in the interest of fostering happy thoughts and getting Eeyore out of my head, here are some good things to fight back against the sucking hole that is Monday:

  • I helped my boy with his Lego school project and he was so happy with how well it turned out. His basic idea was good but he needed help with the execution. Also, I love that little Lego tool that saves my poor nails when I separate bricks. Whoever invented it is a genius.

  • I was able to talk to both my mom and my grandma on Mother's Day, which I never take for granted.

  • I dug myself a little deeper into fandom and participated in a Sentinel chat, compliments of the fine people at [livejournal.com profile] ts_news. The warm welcome I received is just another reason why fanlife rocks!

  • I get to spend Monday hanging with the Shoobies on [livejournal.com profile] ushobwri, which today means looking at inspirational pics of Alan Rickman and watching an awesomely slashy video of Batman and Superman. LOL!

Good things all. I'll have to see how many more I can collect this week. Stay positive, peeps!
brumeier: (cheers)
Sharon B-Day

I would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to Sharon, my very first fic friend and one who had a huge impact on me as a fan fic writer. We met back in the Alice fandom, where I got my start in fan fiction. We shared a mutual love of Hatter and left so many back-and-forth comments on each other's fics that we eventually moved to e-mailing and have been doing that ever since.

Sharon helped me evolve as a fic writer. For example:

  • "I wrote a Sentinel fusion. You don't know what Sentinel is? Well, let me tell you..." (14 fics and all the DVDs later)

  • "I'm writing an NCIS fic. What do you mean, you've never seen the show?" (1 fic and 8 DVD boxed sets later)

  • "Now that you have some Sentinel under your belt, have you read Keira Marcos' Sentinels of Atlantis fic? Wait, you've never heard of Stargate Atlantis?" (10 fics and all the DVDs and some books and some action figures later)

Sharon is also the one that eased me into the world of slash, which as you may know is about all I write these days. And I'd never known about it before I started actively writing fan fic.

So as you can see, I owe Sharon a lot. And she's still my biggest fan. Happy Birthday, babes! All the love!
