brumeier: (Stefon)
I haven't been good about updating my journal, so I'm going to try monthly updates. Full disclosure: this might be the only month I remember to do it. LOL!

July has been a busy month, writing aside. We had our vacation to Pennsylvania, which included Gettysburg, Hershey and Scranton. We watched a Civil War battle reenactment, went on a ghost tour, and toured a coal mine. It was a really fun trip. My son and my nephew are already planning our next excursion. My son wants to go to Salem, Mass and my nephew wants to go to Germany. One is slightly more doable than the other. LOL!

Pic Under Cut )

My boy did a week-long Career Camp at the tech school where I work. He did half day Visual Arts & Communications and half day Pre-Engineering. He really liked the first class, which I've always thought would be a good fit for him when he's old enough to enroll in it. They did silk-screening on t-shirts, made songs on the computer, and worked in Photoshop. Every day he came to show me what he'd done.

It was also my boy's birthday this month. He turned 14. We had a party the Saturday before, with family, and then on the actual day I took off from work and we spent the day together. Went out for brunch, had birthday cheesecake, and picked up new videogames and movies. It was a really nice day.

Pic Under Cut )

Writing has been coming along pretty well, even though my July output hasn't been much. But I'm hard at work on my Harlequin BB fic for the [ profile] story_works challenge. And still trying to finish up my apoca-fic for this month's challenge at [ profile] whatif_au before next month's challenge goes up tomorrow. I've also been inspired by prompts at [ profile] comment_fic and [ profile] mcsheplets. I need all the inspiration and motivation I can get, for reals!

Last but not least, here is my list of posted fics. Not all are from July, since my updates have been spotty.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [ profile] taste_is_sweet!!

If y'all don't know my friend Taste, you should! She's an amazing writer, an amazing friend, and an all-around amazing person. We met through mutual fic admiration, and it was Taste who suggested I check out LJ and sign up for some things. Changed my life!

Do you like all the angst with your fic? Taste brings it in spades with both her fan fic and her published orig fic. She is particularly skilled at putting her characters in seemingly hopeless situations and then working magic to give them the happy endings they deserve.

Taste is the one who put Bucky Barnes in my fic crosshairs. And so, in honor of her birthday, I wrote her a little something.

Have a super spectacular day, Taste!!

Title: Bucky Crosses the Line
Fandom: MCU
Series: Making Connections
Pairing: Stucky (still kind of pre-slash)
Characters: Steve, Bucky, Sam, Bruce, Tony, Clint
Warnings: surprisingly none

Summary: Steve hadn’t seen or heard from Bucky in almost a month, but when he does finally turn up again it's not at all how Steve expected. It's so much better.
brumeier: (Happy Cho)
Hello, friends! I haven't been very good about updating, so let's see what needs to be covered.

First off, the Great Exodus to DW. I've been backing up my journal there but I have no plans for a permanent move at this time. LJ is my comfort zone and as long as it remains as such I'm in it to win it. [ profile] ushobwri is going to make the move as of May 1st after a members vote, and [ profile] whatif_au will be mirrored on both sites. So I've got a little bit of everything going on as far as moving goes.

In writing news I've been busily working on a long-standing WIP as part of [ profile] melagan's Plot Bunny Dust-Off challenge. Not sure I'll get it finished by the end of the month but I've added two new scenes and I know what's coming next so that's a definite improvement.

I'll also be dusting off an even older bunny for next month's AU theme at [ profile] whatif_au. It's at least five years old, maybe a little older, and the whole story is plotted out, characters are fleshed out, and maps have been drawn. Which is probably why I never wrote the thing. But I'm determined to do something with it. Determined, I say!

Trying to plan something for [ profile] mmom next month. I have a vague idea of some naughty sexytimes that could happen. May is also when [ profile] ushobwri does the New Frontiers challenge, and so I need to think of something I haven't written. Last year I did a poem.

As you can see there's still lots to do. And still not much time to do it all in. ::shakes head::

But I do have some fic to share, if you're interested:

brumeier: (Writer's Block)
In non-writing topics, I have used up this year's tax return. That didn't take long, I know. And while I did get some things I didn't need, like DVDs, I also got some clothes for me and the boy, new pots and pans, four new tires for my car, and new glasses for the both of us. Plus I paid off a medical bill and paid off the storage unit. I stretched that money as far as I could!

Luckily I get an extra paycheck this month from first job, so I can put that money away for vacation in July. And get Ms. Barry fixed before she goes into heat a third time. ::shakes head::

In school news, my son is finally passing math! First time this year. I'm very excited. He also asked me to buy him books, which never happens because he hates reading. Fortuitously, the latest book report he did (using a book off the approved list) sucked him into the Ranger's Apprentice series, which he discovered he liked. So much so that he actually read the whole book before he did his report (also a first this year). I'm so happy to buy him books! The first three in the series should be arriving today.

He was also nominated by his math teacher for a week-long STEM workshop, which sounds amazing but unfortunately is so far beyond our financial means it isn't funny. Also, my boy inherited my social anxiety, so he didn't want to go even though they're doing some cool stuff. Still, it's awesome that his math teacher (you know, that class he's been failing all year) thinks he has the stuff for the workshop.

In writing news, I was struggling for a while. No words, no progress being made. But I think I've finally turned a corner. I met several of my deadlines, though the last one is giving me ridiculous amounts of trouble. I'm feeling confident in the writing, though, and that's the main thing.

If you want to see what I've been up to, here's the list!

I just finished importing my journal to Dreamwidth. You can find me over there by the same name, . Right now I'm just backing things up over there. I'll still be on LJ full time, unless things go south. I just like it better over here. ::clings::

In the category of things I absolutely want but don't need, here's what I spent some of my Christmas money on:

Pic under cut )And now to the fic. Can I just say how much my muse is enjoying January so far? After struggling with fic for the previous couple of months I'm back with a vengeance, filling prompts and being awesome. How awesome, you might ask? Well, after three years participating, I finally got a bingo for [ profile] hc_bingo. All the thanks to [ profile] darkmoore for helping make that happen!

Without further ado, here's what I've been up to so far this month (and the tail end of last month):

brumeier: (Happy Cho)
I hope everyone who was/is celebrating this month is having or has had a wonderful time of it!

My Christmas celebrations, spread out over four days, went very well. I got to spend time with just about everyone in my family, which was nice, and there was no shortage of food. A personal highlight for me was going to my mother-in-law's for lunch. She dragged my son off and when he came back he looked like this:

Pic under cut )

He'd never have done that for me, but his grandmother can get him to do anything. LOL! Most of the other pics I have of my boy from the holiday festivities feature his usual stone-faced expression, which he gets from his father. Because why would he want anyone to know he's having a good time? Kids.

Went to see Star Wars: Rogue One last night. It was awesome. And heart-breaking. It was similar to my experience going to see Titanic all those years ago. "Maybe they won't hit the iceberg this time!" ::shakes head:: Ah, well. One of the things that made me the most excited? Lady X-Wing pilots! Woo! And then of course I got the news about Carrie Fisher. Can we please not lose anyone else now? Please?

Okay, on to happier things. Like wishing a belated Happy Birthday to [ profile] annieb1955! I hope you had a great birthday!

Also, I have fic! Not a lot of fic, because the muse has been flighty and RL has been crazy. But I did manage to get two of my three holiday fics finished and posted. Still working on the third. Ideally I'd get that done before the New Year, but probably not. So here's the latest:

brumeier: (Stefon)
So, still enjoying Columbus Day weekend. I had my friend Cali over for a Kathleen Turner quadruple-feature on Saturday. It went a little bit awry, though, when I heard what sounded like a bird in distress out in my parking lot. Wasn't a bird, it was this guy:

My neighbor said that kittens have been popping up all over town, so I don't know if someone's been dumping them off or what. I immediately tried to give him to my friend, but her new apartment doesn't allow pets. And my boy begged and begged and begged some more. So...I guess we're keeping the little guy. He'll be going to the vet this week for a full check-up and shots.

Pending confirmation of gender, I'm pleased to introduce Barry Benjamin Bruno. ::grins:: Barry because he's fast, like the Flash, and Benjamin because my boy liked that name too and couldn't decide. (My suggestion of Bucky was summarily vetoed.) I didn't want another cat. I can't afford it, not really. But how can I say no to my boy or to that little furry face?

Not sure how old he is, but he's very, very small. Happy to report that's he's using the cat box, though, and eating very well. Now we'll see what the vet says.

In fic news, I have once again failed to meet a challenge deadline. I don't know what's with me with deadlines this year, but it's not been good. Sigh.

However, it's Monster Fest at [ profile] ushobwri and that's sparked my muse like it always does. Without further ado...some fic!

brumeier: (Writer's Block)
I've been on vacation this week, friends. There was supposed to be a road trip, and touristy things, but it got canceled. And I have to say, I'm pretty glad. It's been wonderful just lounging around the house, staying up late and sleeping in the next day. And the best thing of all: no need to wear a bra! ::grins::

I did one fill-in shift at second job on Monday, and have been home free since then. And I'll tell you what. I've had ALL THE WORDS. For serious. I've been making myself sit at the kitchen table instead of the comfy couch, kept the TV off, and wrote all the things. Some prompts, a movie fusion that I pumped over 6k words into in one day, and almost nothing that I had planned to work on. Of course! LOL!

Clocked in a total of almost 17k words since Saturday. Outrageous!

Already dreading heading back to work. Sunday for second job, Monday for first job. And then I feel like all my words will dry up. But I feel like I made excellent use of my week off. Now to see about some house cleaning. Bah.

Oh, and I just now got some great news! My brother's five-month legal battle is finally over! Whew. I'm not going to miss going to court every month, I can tell you that. And despite the fact that my brother is a huge idiot, and probably should've had more severe consequences for what he did, we've definitely grown closer thanks to those court days. Now if only he can keep himself out of trouble.

For those interested, here's my list of recent fics. Under a cut, 'cause the list be long, my friends. The list be long.

List Under Cut )
brumeier: (Writer's Block)
Still trucking along with prompts, which somehow keep creating new 'verses for me. But I'm having a lot of fun, and that's the important thing, right? ::grins::

I'm feeling less stress now that I'm challenge and deadline free, though I do have a birthday fic I'd like to write for next week. We'll see how that goes. Oh, and speaking of prompts, I'll be hosting over at [ profile] comment_fic next week. Hopefully my prompt themes will be interesting and inspire some good prompts. ::fingers crossed::

Also, recent horrible events in Orlando prompted me to dust off my Reflections series so Rodney could express his dismay, and mine. Turns out life in Pegasus, being hunted for food, is preferable to being back on Earth and getting hunted for things like sexuality or race. Can I please get on the next Daedalus run to Atlantis?

Anyhoo, here is the latest collection of Brumeier fic:

brumeier: (Happy Cho)
So. Let's deal with the epic fail first thing. I withdrew from the [ profile] sentinelbigbang because Jim and Blair just aren't talking to me. I had months and months to write a thing, which I really wanted to do because it's the Sentinel anniversary this year and everything. But I also didn't want to write some half-assed junk fic just to say I participated. ::sighs:: I feel really bad about it, and about the very real possibility that this fandom is going the way of Alice for me. Sentinel was my first slash fandom, and I haven't told all the stories I wanted to yet, but I'm not sure they'll ever get told now.

I have fandom angst! Gah!

On happier notes, I was able to write a thing for the New Frontiers Challenge at [ profile] ushobwri and a smutty little something for [ profile] mmom, and I feel pretty good about both those things.

Without further ado, here's the latest fic roundup:

brumeier: (Stefon)
So, I (almost) met my self-imposed deadline, and got that gift fic done. Whew! That only took two years! LOL! Now I'm supposed to be working on my Big Bang fic, but that's been exceedingly slow going. Particularly since it's not in the SGA fandom, which is right now eating my brain.

Without further ado, the latest collection of fic:

List Under the Cut )
brumeier: (Bucky Not Amused)
You know, it shouldn't be that hard to commit to a weekly post of fic links. Why can't I do it? ::shakes head::

So, I had to drop out of [ profile] intoabar. I don't feel good about it, but the fic was...not my best effort. I'm not giving up on it, but I honestly don't know how to fix it at this point.

But I have bigger fish to fry. Namely finishing my [ profile] sentinelbigbang. I've literally had forever to work on it, because of a lengthy extension on the original due date. But it seems that once again I'll be racing for the finish and hopefully skidding in just under the wire. I really need to stop signing up for challenges.

There's also a self-imposed deadline of tomorrow (which I will fail at meeting, just FYI) to finish a gift fic that I started for my friend's birthday last year. ::sighs::

Anyway, enough whining. Without further ado, I give you my latest batch of fic:

Under a Cut, Because Long )
brumeier: (Writer's Block)
I've been remiss in linking up my little fics. So bear with me, there's a lot of them!

So, time for the Brumeier 2015 wrap-up.

In the world of fandom and writing, which, let's be honest, is where I spend most of my time, I was surprisingly productive. 35 posted fics! 123,674 posted words! See, this is why I keep a spreadsheet. Because all year I'm like, bah, too tired to write, I'm getting nothing done. False!

Fandom things that happened to me this year:

Bucky took hold of my imagination and my muse, and so I got to add the MCU fandom into my writing repertoire. I think it's safe to say there'll be more of him to come in 2016. ::grins::

I was also lucky enough to be the recipient of fanart, which is just so amazing. I have zero art skills, so people taking the time to draw for me? Awesome! [ profile] danceswithgary made this for one of my SGA fics, and Bonanza drew me some Sentinel art for Sentinel Summer Camp and Soulmates. (The art is posted in the fic.) Love it all!

Just to cover all media angles, the lovely [ profile] librarychick_94 did a podcast of one of my SGA stories, Sight Unseen. Seriously, the fandom generosity has overwhelmed me this year.

And just because I feel like it, here's a list of all the fics I put out there to the world in 2015:

List of Works under cut )
brumeier: (Stefon)
So, I posted a tiny little installment in my Making Connections series in the Marvel Universe fandom. Just something I was pondering that turned into a ficlet.

Title: Do Cryogenically Frozen Assassins Dream of Icy Death?
Fandom: MCU, CA:WS
Character: Bucky Barnes
Rating: Teen and Up
Warnings: Memory Loss, Dreams and nightmares

Summary: When Bucky sleeps, what does he dream about?

Also, I'm sadly lacking a Bucky icon. ::adds to list of things to do::
brumeier: (Writer's Block)
So, I posted two gift fics in the last two days. After an April with no fics posted at all, I'm so happy to post anything! LOL!

I finished a porny little SGA fic, which I gifted to my friend Smiles2go because I still haven't finished her official birthday fic (so long! so many characters!). Here's the info on that one:

Title: Purloined
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: McShep
Warnings: Explicit sexy fun times and bad language

Summary: John knows he should clear up the laundry mix-up, but not before he takes Rodney's high-end sheets for a test-drive.

And for the ever-delightful [ profile] taste_is_sweet I posted a birthday fic (It's her birthday today! Happy Birthday, bb!) featuring her new favorite broken boy, Bucky Barnes.

Title: Bucky Reaches Out
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America Movies
Pairing: Steve/Bucky (just a hint, really, it's mostly gen)
Warnings: Emotional angst

Summary: Bucky is troubled by some Avengers marketing, and looks to Steve to help him understand who he is now that he's not the Winter Soldier anymore.
brumeier: (Stefon)
Lookie, lookie what my wonderful friend [ profile] taste_is_sweet sent me for my birthday!

Aren't Cap and Bucky just adorable? These little Funko bobbles are so cute, and they have a very nice bobble as well. ::grins::

Now they just need to make SGA bobbles and my life will be complete.

Thanks, Taste, for your continued awesome!

Edited to Add: SQUEEE! Not just bobbles, but a Stucky fic featuring Rodney McKay! I don't know what I did to earn this kind of good karma, but I'm not complaining. The fic is called As Big and Bright as the Stars. Thank you AGAIN, Taste! Best. Birthday. Ever.
