Hi friends! ::waves::

It's been a while since I've done a decent update on the life and times of Bru, so here it is.

My 13 year old son has a girlfriend. It's not his first one, but he was on a dating ban because the last girl that wanted to be his girlfriend was awful. She treated him horribly. Hoping this one is nicer. She's a year older. They went to the school's Winter Semi-formal dance as friends, and he asked her out at the end of the night. I applaud his bravery because I remember how terrifying that could be.

My mother is turning into quite the little activist. She participated in a Women's March in Miami the day after Inauguration Day, and this weekend she did a march in Palm Beach. Look how cute she is! (She's the one in the orange shirt.)

I had a scary encounter at the laundromat yesterday. I went late in the day, and I was the only one sitting in there. The laundromat has a TV mounted to the wall that unfortunately plays nothing but Fox News. I've submitted a request begging them to change it to any other channel. Otherwise I might have to scale the vending machine and look for the buttons to do it manually. Anyhoo, this big guy comes in to get his clothes out of the dryer and there's a Trump interview happening on TV. He salutes the TV, and then very loudly starts yelling at it when someone else comes on camera with some presidential criticism. The guy had an accent I couldn't place, and he was furious that anyone would say bad things about Trump. "I pray for him every night!" There was some ranting about Iranians or something, I don't know, I was trying not to listen. And then he looked at me and asked, "Do you support Trump?"

Luckily he didn't stay long.

In writing news, I'm trying to get like six or seven different fics written. It's slow going. I have gift fics and challenge fics and this crazy International Fanworks Day fic I'm struggling with. If I get them all done by deadline I'll be very pleasantly surprised.

Really big news, if only for me, is that I'm planning on starting a writing challenge on LJ which will be independent from [ profile] ushobwri. It's going to be a monthly multifandom AU challenge, for which I already have a huge list of AUs to choose from. I love AUs so much and this is something I've been wanting to do for a while. Thanks to [ profile] nagi_schwarz and [ profile] taste_is_sweet for their feedback and additions to the list. The challenge won't be going live till April, but I'll be pimping it in advance so stay tuned! You know. If you're interested. ::grins::

Here's some gratitude, which is overdue.

Thank you to my son, who has been making efforts to be more responsible, and help out more around the house. He's not always successful, but I appreciate him even trying.

Thank you to my brother, who no longer lives on my couch (but might soon be my neighbor one street over) for calling yesterday just to check in and see how I was doing.

Thank you to Cali, who comes over for semi-regular movie marathons and let's me inflict all kinds of things on her. This weekend? Solarbabies and The Legend of Billie Jean, because she's never seen them and she should. ::grins::

Thank you to Anthony Bourdain, the comfort food of reality TV. I was feeling sad because I finished a series, and it makes me happy to have any one of his shows to fall back on.

Thank you to Stranger Things, which showed me that I wasn't already jacked up enough for the second season by having a new trailer play during the Superbowl, and holy cow! I want it now!

And thanks to all of you, who are so funny and talented and wonderful and make me so happy each and every day!

Finally, the one new posted fic that I have to share. So many more coming, though, I promise!

Title: Beneath the Wristband
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: McShep
Characters: John, Rodney
Warnings: Mention of past suicide attempt

Prompt: Stargate: Atlantis, John Sheppard and/or Rodney McKay, Scar (Foxes)

In which John is a mystery Rodney would love to solve, but some things are painful to learn.

I am so far behind on reading posts and on writing fic and on reading fic (*annoyed at RL interfering with fannishness*), and here I am reading your update and appreciating knowing how things are with you.

I'm getting pretty far behind in my fic reading, too. Maybe once I finish another fic or five. ::grins::

Thank you kindly for stopping by!

I need to catch up on your fics! *huggles*
I have them all saved for a rainy day (or something).

You make us happy, too! :)

There is nothing wrong in saying you pray for Trump - just don't share your wording.

Your Mum looks awesome!

I doubt I'll join your AU comm - I really should be writing other things ... (Although there's always Penguin!Sherlock) But thank you very much for reccing [ profile] fffc I'm having a lot of fun there.

My mom is pretty awesome. ::nods::

I'm glad [ profile] fffc is working out for you! Yay! No worries on the AU comm. I know that's not eveyrone's thing. I feel like it's become one of the things I'm best at, though, which is funny because I was dead against it back in the early days. LOL! Ah, how things change!

Aw, your boy officially has a GF. Yay! Glad she's nicer than the last one. Excited about your AU challenge!

Thank you! I'm pretty excited too. Woo!

We'll see how this GF thing plays out. She's got him going to an awful lot of basketball games. LOL!

> It's going to be a monthly multifandom AU challenge

OMG, I AM SO THERE!!!! After thinking AUs were completely awful, and then being metaphorically smacked up side the head by [ profile] elderwitty for being an idjit, they're my absolute favorite thing to both read and write.

I need to get back into fandom reading... I miss it, but right now I'm only reading books. Hell, it's the first full week of February, and I'm almost halfway done with my 2017 Goodreads book challenge! :) I think after I finish this political book (and as long as the sequel isn't out yet, because I looked ahead and saw the massive cliffhanger), I'm going to go back to reading fanfic, and I need to start with this one (Beneath the Wristband), because that's the one big intriguing thing in SGA for me. For some reason, I really love SGA fics focused on John's wristband. Yes, I'm weird. :)

AUs give me life! ::grins:: I'm glad [ profile] elderwitty set you straight on that. Otherwise we might not have had the awesome rancher AU!

I think the wristband is so intriguing because there doesn't seem to be any good reason for John to wear it. It's just one, instead of two, and he always has it on, except when he's back on Earth (I think). So you're not alone in wondering about it. Which makes you not weird at all!

>.> Well, Trump certainly inspires me to pray. Just not in the way a guy like that would appreciate.

An AU challenge! Neat!

LOL! Yeah, you got that right!

I love AUs, so it's really a treat for myself. I'll definitely be participating as well as modding.

Your encounter sounds really scary. I had some old guy compliment me on how well I do my job and then tell me Trump was going to get me a raise, and I thought to myself, "You are dead to me."

Look at your mom go though, being awesome :D

::snorts:: Dead to me! LOL! Yeah. My mom has been unfriending a lot of people on FB since the election. Including her BIL.

But hey, if Trump wants to give me money I'll take it. Sadly I think he's going to spend it all on his vacations. Ah, well.

Yay! I love AUs so much. I love the challenge of dropping my boys into different scenarios and making sure that they're still recognizable. Hopefully it'll be good times once it starts going.

Aw, girlfriend! Ethan hasn't ventured there yet. I know he's liked/crushed, but he's seemingly quite content ATM. He has 2-3 girls that are really good friends, which I really like.

I LOVE AU's! I'll keep my eyes out. Personal goal this year is fewer challenges, as I feel like I spent last year racing deadline to deadline, although they also pushed e in cool new ways. You had a big year, yes? (story/WC-wise)

It's good that Ethan has friends that are girls. Xander's girlfriend was his friend first, they hung out at school all the time. I kind of miss the days when he thought girls were gross. ::grins::

I had an excellent writing year, it's true. Now to finish a bunch of things I started! LOL!
